When all other venues fail, people take to the streets. The
protest march is as old as civilization and necessary to the
preservation of civilization. Together, in the streets, for
a brief time, the powerless feel their collective power. Photographers
and journalists who cover these events are sometimes arrested
or restricted in their movements. I photographed the WTO in
Seattle, the Summit of the Americas in Quebec City but was
one of several people refused accreditation by the RCMP to
attend the events in Kananaskis, Alberta, taking place inside
at the G-8 Summit in June of 2003.
